Trip-Guida Tallinn 2007

Questa è una guida di base di Tallinn , capitale dell’Estonia e patria di Skype.
La guida è pensata come “primo passo” per preparare un viaggio in Estonia.
Poi potete fare gli altri passi e approfondire o meno, la tripguida dovrebbe comunque bastare per approcciare la città  con quel minimo di informazioni di base necessarie.
Il resto lo imparate in loco via via.
L’approccio di questa e di tutte le tripguide è quello di accompagnarvi da vicino dalla partenza al momento in cui avete poggiato gli zaini sul letto, quindi nelle fasi più delicate, per poi pian piano lasciarvi scoprire da soli la città .

Come andare a Tallinn
- In Aereo dall’Italia a Tallinn:
con la Estonian Air solo da Milano con circa 230 Euro, variabili a seconda del periodo.

Oppure:
Volare su Riga e Vilnius e poi andare a Tallinn in bus o in aereo:
AirBaltic da Milano, Roma e Venezia per Riga o Vilnius, con circa 200 Euro a seconda del periodo o da Milano a Vilnius con la FlyLal, circa 230 Euro.
e poi
a) in bus da Riga o Vilnius a Tallinn, in circa 5/6 ore e meno di 10 euro.
b) in aereo a Tallinn da Vilnius con la FlyLal a circa 100 Euro o da Riga con la AirBaltic a circa 100 Euro.

Totali:
Tutto in aereo: 230/350 Euro andata e ritorno tasse incluse.
Aereo e bus: 230/250 Euro andata e ritorno tasse incluse.

Se non trovate niente provate su Helsinki, da lì poi ci sono dei ferry veloci e non troppo cari.
Chi vola a Helsinki? AirBerlin da Milano e Blue da Milano e Roma.
Il ferry Helsinki-Tallinn ci mette circa 2 ore e i prezzi sono molto variabili, perfino in base all’ora del giorno, ma siamo sui 20 euro per tratta.
Per verificare vedete questi siti delle varie compagnie di ferry: Vikingline, SuperSeaCat EckeroLin, Tallink.
Poi dal porto al centro storico di Tallinn si va a piedi o con un taxi a 3/4 euro.

- In Bus
Se il budget è ristretto e non avete trovato un volo, potete anche andare in bus, ma è davvero lunga e comunque non si va sotto i 130 Euro per tratta: Il Tragitto e orari Eurolines Roma-Tallinn (pdf).

- In Treno
Visti i prezzi del volo, a meno che non vogliate fermarvi per strada e visitare altre città , non ne vale davvero la pena. In ogni caso non ci sono treni diretti Italia-Estonia.

L’arrivo a Tallinn
In aereo: In aereo: l’aeroporto è a soli 10 minuti di taxi dal centro. Appena arrivate rititirate dei soldi dall’Atm (bancomat). Per avere biglietti di piccolo taglio magari approfittatene e comprate una Sim card Simpel o Smart starter kitm.
Il taxi costa circa 70 Kr (5 Euro).

Potete anche prendere il bus, davanti agli Arrivi, Il bus Numero 2 vi porta in centro, per esempio al Teenindusmaja stop, vicino al Viru Hotel/shopping centre, da li siete a 5 minuti a piedi dal centro storico di Tallinn.
Il biglietto costa 15 Kr (1 Euro) e si compra nel bus.

In bus:
I bus arrivano alla stazione dei bus (autobussijaam) vicino all’autostrada da Tartu.
Se arrivate da Riga o Vilnius é molto meglio scendere prima, alla fermata Viru và¤ljak che è molto più centrale.
Il cambio in stazione è molto svantaggioso, quindi conviene usare il bancomat (ATM) all’entrata per ritirare dei soldi.
Per andare in città : il centro è a 1 Km, scendendo Juhkentali
tà¤nav da dietro la stazione. Potete prendere i Bus N°17, 17A, 23 and 23A che vi portano a Vabaduse và¤ljak (quarta fermata) in centro, mentre il bus 52 (o i tram 2 e 4 se sono stati riaperti) parte da Tartu maantee a Viru và¤ljak (quarta fermata) .
Il taxi costa circa 50 kr (poco più di 3 euro).

Soldi in Estonia

Il cambio con l’Euro è circa 15,60 Kr.

Dormire a Tallinn

Ostelli: non ho mai dormito in Ostello, sono molto cari. Un letto costa circa 20 Euro. Considerate però che le cose cambiano in fretta e che vale la pena di verificare in qualche sito di ostelli, tipo HostelWorld.com o Hostels.com

Appartamenti a Tallinn

Se siete in più di due vi consiglio gli appartamenti che con 20 euro a testa potrebbero risultare più economici se cucinate in casa.
Io ho dormito in questi:
Lai e Uss 1 e sono ottimi per il prezzo.
In alta stagione sono però cari come tutto il resto e conviene davvero muoversi per tempo!
Per gli Hotel fate una ricerca qui, io non ci ho mai dormito.

Mangiare a Tallinn

Si può mangiare bene in un ristorante carino con 6-8 Euro anche se non durerà  molto.
Un paio di posti particolarmente cheap:
Kompressor, Rataskaevu 3, tel. 646 42 10.
Pancakes di dimensioni generose, da 20 – 45kr (1,5 – 3 Euro).
Li potete ordinare con formaggio all’aglio, gamberetti (siamo sul baltico!) , tacchino affumicato ecc…aperto 11:00 – 23:00, Venerdì, Sabato e Domenica 11:00 – 02:00.

Qui suonano perfino musica dal vivo, oltre che a fornirvi, ancora, mega panckaes (provate formaggio e funghi) a 35 Kr (2,4 euro).
Orari 12:00 – 01:00, Venerdì e Sabato 12:00 – 03:00.

Per il resto girate e vedete dove vi portano lo stomaco e il portafoglio.
Vale sempre la regola: se ci mangiano solo i turisti non ci andate.

Vita Notturna a Tallinn
Devo ammettere di essere uscito ben poco. I posti più classici sembrano essere l’Hollywood e il BobBon. Entrate gratis tranne quando ci sono eventi speciali e si paga dalle 100 alle 150 kr (7/10 Euro).
Le ragazze? Si, sono bellissime.

Telefoni e internet a Tallinn
Sim prepagate: Il prefisso internazionale dell’Estonia è 372. Una sim, Simpel o Smart starter kit costa 150kr (9 Euro) in edicola, e 100 Kr sono di credito.
Wi-fi (wireless): Tallinn é la patria del Wireless. Se trovate delle zone non coperte denunciatele e il responsabile verrà  impiccato a un’antenna. Maggiori informazioni sul wireless a Tallinn.
Internet cafès: Ce ne sono parecchi e il costo medio di un’ora è di 35 kr (2,2 Euro).

Conclusioni
Tallinn è una città  facile da gestire in maniera indipendente. Gli errori possono portare semplicemente a spendere di più o non divertirsi, nulla di grave.
Non è pericolosa, ma lo può diventare se non fate un minimo di attenzione, come ovunque.
Vi consiglio di passarci almeno 3 giorni pieni, 5 è meglio. Di più e dovete cominciare ad organizzarvi per riempire le giornate. In quel caso può forse valer la pena di andare anche a Riga e/o Vilnius che sono a 5/6 ore di bus.

E’ bella d’estate quando le terrazze dei bar sono al sole, ma inondate di turisti , mentre vi rivela il proprio fascino d’inverno, quando vagando le stradine medievali sarete soli e sotto la neve. Vi sembrerà  di essere tornati indietro di qualche centinaio di anni!

This is a basic guide of Tallinn, the capital of Estonia.
This guide is conceived as a first step to prepare your trip to Tallinn.
After reading it you will be more or less ready to go there.

The guide is very detailed at the beginning, from when you leave home to when you get in the room in Tallinn. After that it gets easier for you and the guide is less detailed.

How to fly to Tallinn – low cost airlines

These are the low cost airlines flying to Tallinn at the moment: Estonian Air, AirBaltic, FlyLal, FinnComm, EasyJet, Norwegian

I may present here a research but things change too quickly. Your best bet is to access those sites and see if they have the flight you need!

From Finland, Helsinki there is a fast and cheap ferry service (about 2 hours for 20 euro one way), so you may even consider to fy to Helsinki. See here who is flying there.

Arriving in Tallinn
By plane: easy. The airport is at only 10 minutes of taxi from the centre.
As soon as you arrive, withdraw some money from the Atm. You may buy something at the kiosk to break up the big notes. If you need a Sim card go at the kios and buy a Sim card Simpel o Smart starter kit (see more about estonian sim cards below).

The taxi to Tallinn Old Town will cost you about 70 Kr (5 Euro).

If you want to save you can even get a public bus. You find it in front of the Arrivals Hall. Number 2 will take you to the centre. Get down at Teenindusmaja stop, close to Viru Hotel/shopping centre and you have 5 minutes walk to the old town.
The ticket is 15 Kr (1 Euro) and you buy it in the bus.

By Bus:
The busses arrive at the bus station (autobussijaam) close to the Tartu highway.
If you arrive from Riga or Vilnius you bettee get off at the stop called Viru và¤ljak as it is much closer to the centre.
Avoid, if you can, changing money at the bus station as the rates are scary and use the ATM to withdraw some cash.
You can walk 1 km to the old town, following Juhkentali tà¤nav from behind the station.
You may also get a local public bus (N°17, 17A, 23 and 23A) which will take you to Vabaduse và¤ljak (4th stop) in the centre. Bus 53 (or trams 2 and4 if they have reopened already by the time you read this), leave from Tartu maantee and take you to Viru và¤ljak (also 4th stop).
Taxi will cost you around 50 kr (a bit more than 3 euro).

Money in Estonia

You give 1 Euro, they give you 15,60 Kr at the time of writing.

Sleeping in Tallinn

Hostels: not as cheap as you may expect. A bed in a dorm will be around 20 euro. Things anyway change fast so check out the last rates here HostelWorld.com or Hostels.com

Appartments in Tallinn
If you are more than 2 people you’ll probably get a better deal with a small studio or apartment in Tallinn.
Cook there and you’ll save even more.
I slept in these ones:
Lai e Uss 1 and I judge them as good value.
In high season they are quite expensive, as every accommodation in Tallinn, and also not easy to find free: you better reserve on time.

Eating in Tallinn
You can have a good meal in a nice restaurant for 6-8 Euro.
A couple of cheaper places:

Kompressor, Rataskaevu 3, tel. 646 42 10.
Big pancakes, for about 20 – 45kr (1,5 – 3 Euro).
Get them with garlic, shrimps (we are on the baltic!), turkey or more.
Open from 11:00 to 23:00, Friday, Saturday, Sunday 11:00 – 02:00.

This is just to give you an idea, there are too many places. Just go around, prefer hidden places and run away when all you see is tourists, as the old rule says.

Night life in Tallinn
The most classic places are lHollywood and BobBon but night life changes fast, so you better ask when you are in Tallinn.
Normally the entrance is free, when there are special events a ticket may cost from 100 to 150 Kr (7/10 Euro). Yes, girls are beautiful.

Telephone and internet in Tallinn
Prepaid Sims: Simpel o Smart starter kit cost 150kr (9 Euro) at the newsagent, of which 100 Kr are credit, so it is really worth buying one if you are going to use the phone.

Wi-fi (wireless): wireless was probably born here and you are supposed to report uncovered area to the police who will put in jail the responsibles (joke).

Conclusions

Tallinn is an easy city to visit independently.
If you do make a mistake the consequences will probably simply be that you pay something too much.
It is a safe place, as the average european city, as long as you are careful to the basics.
It is beautiful in summer, when you can sit in the terraces drinking something and watching people walking, 70% of which are tourist.
It is great in winter when the snow falls and tourists are home.
